Expression in Form
Saturday, May 28, 2005

On Thursday, I learnt to express myself when performing. Technically, when I fight, and that's what I train for the most, I will have my eyes locked on my target(s). However, when performing, snapping the head in various directions adds expression to my forms and that's what I'm trying to practice.

I also finally got to fight 2 on 1 on Thursday! I have been prepping myself for this by working on my speed trying to take on opponents with one hand. Finally, I think that speed works to some advantage when fighting people 2 on 1 as I can take both their hands on one side, then switch to the other if need be and take the other person with one hand too.

2 on 1 is definitely a different environment from sparring, but I think it's TONNES more exhilirating! I am going to incorporate that training into the White Crane classes.

I also decided that for now, I have the opportunity to separate "hardKore" fighting, from performing and having fun. So that's what I do. Personally, I'm more there with my Shaolin kung fu bros and sis' for the chillin' than the performing. However, I guess the experience of learning to do a form under pressure is a good one. While I'm there too, might as well perform.

I can't wait until John comes back. If Alex S. came out more and John was back, I'm sure the three of us will elevate each other's kung fu by a good amount.

Due to excessive spam, I have now moved my blog to http://dho.ca/wp. Please feel free to visit me there to comment!
