Quote: On Perfection

Aspiration is what propels us to our greatest heights,
but the same longing for perfection can also destroy us.
Master Goten

It came from a video game. (And I credit Vin with bringing it to my attention.)

Being brought up as a perfectionist by my parents, I keep having to look back at the quote to make sure I don’t self destruct looking for the “perfect girl”, “perfect job”, “perfect life” etc which doesn’t exist. When you look for perfection, nothing is ever perfect. There is always room for a new feature, to hit faster, to have better lighting.

At some point, you have to say to yourself, “I have reached a high enough level, now let it go!”

The other problem with perfection, is that you try to be perfect in everything. You can’t be perfect, if you aren’t perfect in everything. Instead you should mass your resources and try to strive towards perfection in one thing.

You can’t be a perfect martial artist, dancer, computer programmer, photographer, etc. There are only so many hours in a day.

    Dear Dan Ho,

I agree with your philosophy on perfection! My parents divorced when I was a child and I craved for a release of my feelings. And the way I would release them are through WRITING…an avenue in which I often use express my inner soul.

I wanted to be a perfect writer but as I got OLDER, I knew that as long as I wrote from the abyss of my soul, that was my very best! I knew I felt good about myself. Dan, YOU are a BEAUTIFUL inspiration and a WONDERFUL example of realness from the soul!

As a woman, its so important that we we reach deep in the soul and be REAL about it, thats the true height of one’s perfection.
