Got my 50mm f/1.4
I finally got around to purchasing my 50mm f/1.4 lens. It’s been a while since I was considering this purchase, but my f/1.8 was doing well, albeit a little slow at focusing.
Finally, as the USM on my 24-70 died, and I needed a lens in between my 16-35 and 70-200 for work, I decided it was time to make the switch to the f/1.4.
While I’m not a diehard bokeh fan, shooting at f/1.4 does throw the backgrounds considerably out of focus nicely.
Subjects feel sharper than with my f/1.8 and the focus seems accurate.
I don’t think my f/1.8 is inaccurate with its focus. I think I just have hold the focus button for about 2 seconds before it will lock on. With the f/1.8, I needed to stab at the button 3 or 4 times when I was shooting outdoors in street light before I was confident my subject was in focus.
With my f/1.4 however, I was shooting in near darkness in a room lit only by the light coming in from the next room and the focus looks accurate.
On my way to the Niagara Ice Wine festival this week and my 50mm’s coming with me. It will be fun times! Look forward to posting pictures from that trip!
Was all ready to donate my RC-1 to a friend who had and older Rebel when I randomly decided to google and found out my RC-1 could work with my 5D mk II. It didn’t work with my 30D and my 1D and has been lying unused in my basement for the better part of the past four or five years.
My generosity will be put on hold as I now have a new use for that RC-1 remote!
