The Obama Speech on Osama

As I was listening to President Obama’s speech last night about Osama bin Laden’s death, I couldn’t help but think about the impact of the speech.

TJ Walker on Forbes gave him “very high marks”. He said Obama came across as measured, thoughtful and humble. He took care to give credit to various people involved. To minimize the impact of retaliation, Obama also stated that Osama bin Laden was not a muslim leader. He was a killer of muslims. Walker also said Obama gave credit to himself in a humble way.

I for one have been enthralled by speeches of kings. These days, as a democratically elected leader, a President doesn’t have the same political leeway to make a high impact speech as a King.

What might his speech have been had he been King Barack of the United States?

[Cue wind blowing across the pains, a thousand soldiers lined up neatly in formation, gun stocks pounding against the rocky terrain.]

Sons of America!

This day, shall go down in history … as the day … we rid the world of an evil!

We do not want this fight, but they brought it to our shores. They blow up our men, from a distance. They fight from the shadows, with no honour.

But we … we chased them across the seas, across most inhospitable terrain … for over ten long years.

Spears were broken, shields where shattered. They can take our lives … but not our freedom!

What fear they commanded from the killing of countless innocents, was crushed by our commitment to liberty!

Today, we quashed the heart of their rebellion! We fought them face to face … and slaughtered the scourge of mankind!

Osama, their leader … is no more!

Americans can take pride that we have sent the terrorist barbarians running … with their tails between their legs! They now know they can run, but it is not a question of if … but a matter of when … we will get them!

Let no man take away, this freedom for which we have so valiantly fought!

God was watching, but we did not disappoint!

Let us pick up our arms and charge forward … and win freedom … FOR THE WORLD!

God bless America!!

I admit, Rome: Total War was one of my favourite games. As my troops lined up on the plains, ready to lay siege to a fort, or disperse of an inferior army, my general opened up his heart to his men. Rallied them in heart, body and soul such that they would follow him to victory or death.

There are lots of awesome speeches you can find on YouTube!

They include the 300 final battle speech, Aragon’s speech at the Black GateAchilles’ to his Myrmidons, William Wallace in Braveheart and many more!
