I am a freelance photo, video and print journalist working in Canada and love travel journalism.

Before moving to media, I worked in web software design and development. I had to put the time I spent getting my Bachelor of Mathematics at the University of Waterloo to some use. Previous work on interface design projects has proved invaluable to my work in media and graphic design.

I now combine the media, design and software development skills, producing content rich web sites.

An open mind, unquenchable desire to learn and infinite curiosity fuel my passion for travel, photography and journalism!

Feel free to say hi, leave comments and I hope to see you around!

Hi Dan, since I wasn’t able to send you a message back on Twitter (it doesn’t allow me to reply to messages from people who don’t follow my profile), I thought I’d write here. I’m glad you like my blog, and thanks for the list. Your blog is pretty impressive, and I will definitely follow your work. I see you’ve amassed a fair bit of journalistic writing/photography and that you’re a freelancer–that’s something I aspire to, and don’t be surprised if I come to you with questions about your craft :)

I didn’t so much come up with the topic as stumble into it. I used to date an older man (13-year difference) while still in university. At one point, the profs in one of my writing courses gave us a research paper assignment on any topic of our choosing, and since I was so enamoured with my then-bf, I figured, what the heck? I’ll see what the scientific literature has to say. Definitely a shocker. The resulting paper was a literary analysis of Ovid’s Metamorphoses through the lens of modern research. Kind of a genre-bending bit of work (will post it to my blog soonish). I also published an article in Excalibur and a reprint in the Ryerson Free Press (the latter’s here: http://ryersonfreepress.ca/site/archives/2416). So yeah. That’s my story :)

If you are anyone you know has been in this kind of relationship and would like to share your experiences (confidentially), I’d love to tentatively schedule an interview. I’m still in the process of getting my first one for the blog underway, but I’m always scouting for more opinions/subjects.

    Cheers,

    Maya

@twitter-174859059:disqus I have you followed on Twitter. I think it might have lagged or I might have clicked twice by accident. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions, Maya. I’ll be happy to try to answer them.
